Uneasy Listening

Deathspell Omega - Fas -Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum

The second volume in a masterful satanic audio tryptich, this dense and suffocating recording is an apex of achievement in Black Metal. An astounding, dissonant assault to the senses, in invokes claustrophobia, shortness of breath and exhilaration. A true masterpiece. 4.6 stars

Cattle Decapitation - Humanure

While the instrumentation isn't nearly as interesting or technical as Karma, Bloody Karma, it is still a damn good record nonetheless. 3.72 stars

Stumptown

Stumptown Comics Fest came and went. Ah, it was a blast. Here are a couple of con sketches.

This went in a Sandman-themed sketchbook.

This here zombie Smurf was done for a, you guessed it, Smurf-themed sketchbook.

Baroness - Red Album

Sounds like a cross between Mastodon and Isis, with a little southern twang thrown in. File under prog-rock. A tad repetitive in spots. Excellent nonetheless. 3.61 stars

bat-pug

My inspiration for the bat-pugs in The Engineer #2.

Suggested Listening

The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal

This one really surprised me. Really interesting yet catchy with over-the-top screechy vocals. Have you ever listened to an album for the first time, and it seems like it's been a favorite of yours for years, and you've already listened to it a meeeelion times? That familiarity? I was struck by the same feeling when I first listened to this. A really excellent metal record. 4.25 stars

High on Fire - Death is this Communion

Excellent. Though not better than their high-water mark, "Surrounded by Thieves" which in my mind is a classic. 4 stars

Matt Wagner's Engineer

Had a chance to meet Matt at the Stumptown Comics Fest. He surprised us by doing this awesome pin-up, which will serve as the back cover to issue #1. Thanks Matt!!!
